What does this ministry/group do?

Ministers of Care are pastoral, sacramental ministers who visit sick, elderly, and physically or emotion-ally challenged persons in hospitals, nursing homes, and individual homes for shared prayer and Eucharist.

When do they meet/serve?

At most once a week to bring communion to a shut in parishioner. There are two reflection meetings a year for all active ministers to gather as a team.

Who is invited to participate?

Parishioners who are confirmed and have a driver’s license.

What volunteer opportunities are there?

Ministers bring communion to parishioners that cannot make it to Mass.

What is the time commitment?

At most one hour a week. Most visits are on weekends after Mass. There are some requests for weekday visits. Ministers will only be asked to serve on the days that they can commit.

What skills are required?

None

Is any training required? If so, what does that look like?

Yes. Either four classes at The Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien, or one class at Holy Spirit plus a minimum of two supervised parishioner visits.
