Reconciliation

Sin is before all else an offense against God, a rupture of communion with him. The sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation was instituted by Christ to offer members of his Church a new possibility to convert and recover the grace of justification.

The confession (or disclosure) of sins, even from a simply human point of view, frees us and facilitates our reconciliation with others. Through such an admission, we look squarely at the sins we are guilty of, take responsibility for them, and open ourselves again to God and to the communion of the Church in order to make a new future possible.

The whole power of the sacrament of Penance consists in restoring us to God’s grace and joining us with him in an intimate friendship.
